Zumba for fitness and weight loss

Zumba is a form of Latin dance inspired fitness program which burns calories. Zumba has so many elements to it including dance and aerobics. The choreography contained within Zumba ranges from hip-hop, samba, salsa, soca, meringue, mambo, marital arts, Bollywood and even belly dancing type moves!

Zumba comes in so many variations that there is something for everyone regardless of your age, gender, abilities, capabilities and restrictions.

Whether you are 17 or 70 you can do Zumba.

There are classes for beginners, classes for the more advanced and also classes for the older generation or those with certain restrictions.

Zumba is for anyone who is will to have a go and have a dance. I will use the word 'dance' very loosely here also as no dance experience or skills are required at all.

In addition to these dance moves there are also squats and lunges incorporated into the routines.

Zumba sessions are typically about an hour long and are taught by licensed instructors.

Zumba is an extremely effective whilst also very easy to follow dance party! It gets you into shape whilst burning off those calories. It will help improve your health and most importantly, it is fun to do.The sessions can alternate from high intensity and lower intensity exercises which work very well for both beginners and more advanced exercisers. The changes in intensity in Zumba are driven by the different rhythms and the music and steps. This is great fun and does not contain any of the bad effects which a session of high impact aerobics may contain.

There are many different variations to the sessions but a typical session will begin with a warm up, then it will include approximately 8 to 10 different routines which will change in intensity and dance style. The routines are very easy to follow and are usually concluded with abdominal work and then a cooling off period and a stretch so you can relax your muscles and bring back down your heart rate.Currently more than 12 million people across the globe take a Zumba class on a weekly basis in more than 125 countries over the world.

The classes are not only a great way to exercise, tone the body and lose weight but also a great way to socialise and meet new people.
If however you can not attend a class in your local area then Zumba is now widely available on DVDs which you can do in the comfort at your own home at your own convenience.

Zumba is also available on numerous games consoles which you can do alone or with family members.
